Canceled: Life by You Game Project Terminated Due to Slow Development and Subpar Quality Standards

Paradox Interactive has announced the cancellation of the Life by You game, a life simulation game developed by former The Sims team. They cited the reason for the cancellation being that the game did not meet the company’s quality standards.

Life by You was first introduced in March 2023 by Paradox Tectonic, a studio under Paradox Interactive led by Rod Humble, former head of The Sims studio from 2008-2011. However, the game encountered development delays, leading to the postponement of Early Access testing three times.

Mattias Lilja, Paradox Interactive’s COO assistant, stated that during the final delay, the management team decided to reassess the project. While the game showed continuous improvement in development, the path to a full-fledged release was filled with uncertainties. Giving the team more time to develop further would not guarantee reaching that point, so the decision was made to cancel the project instead of prolonging it indefinitely.

Lilja commented that the decision to cancel the game was a difficult one and could potentially disappoint the hard-working development team. Ultimately, the company’s goal is to create entertaining, engaging, and challenging games for players, and this decision aligns with that principle.

TLDR: Paradox Interactive cancels Life by You game due to quality standards not being met, despite continuous improvements during development. The decision aims to uphold the company’s commitment to delivering fun, interesting, and challenging games for players.
