Cease Production: EA Halts Development on World Rally Championship (WRC) Racing Game After Release of Single Edition

Codemasters, a renowned racing game developer, sold to EA in 2020, has announced the cessation of their World Rally Championship (WRC) game series. Their latest installment, EA Sports WRC 2023, features updated content for the 2024 racing season.

The WRC racing game series has been in development since 2001, with multiple studios and distributors over the years. The previous studio, Kylotonn from France, distributed by Nacon, was replaced by the Codemasters/EA partnership in 2023. However, they have now halted production after just one installment.

Codemasters’ flagship game is the F1 racing series, released annually, alongside other racing titles like Dirt and Grid.

Recently, EA announced the dismissal of 3-400 employees, with uncertainties about whether Codemasters was affected and if it relates to the discontinuation of WRC development.
