HMD, formerly known as HMD Global, was founded in 2016 with the rights to use the Nokia brand in the mobile market as the sole player for a decade. However, last year in 2023, the company announced its strategy to launch its own HMD branded phones alongside the original Nokia phones, introducing HMD Pulse, HMD Skyline, and MHD Fusion into the market. Recently, Notebookcheck found that in some European countries, the HMD.com website no longer features Nokia smartphones on its homepage, such as HMD UK, HMD Germany, and HMD France, but Nokia feature phones are still available for sale. (The HMD Thailand website still features Nokia smartphones.)
At this point, there has been no official statement from HMD regarding the use of the Nokia brand, but by now, it is clear to everyone that ultimately, HMD may phase out the use of the Nokia brand in the long run.
