The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China (MIIT) has announced a significant advancement in the chip manufacturing industry within the country. They have successfully developed deep ultraviolet (DUV) machinery without disclosing the name of the company responsible for its production.
This DUV equipment utilizes light with a wavelength of 193nm, enabling the creation of circuit patterns as small as 65nm with an overlay accuracy of 8nm. This marks a milestone in chip production capabilities without relying on Western technology.
Although this technology is not quite on par with the latest advancements, such as ASML’s TWINSCAN EXE:5000 machine using a 13.5nm wavelength to achieve circuit patterns as small as 8nm, or the latest version TWINSCAN NXT:2100i with a resolution of 38nm.
High-tech chip manufacturing equipment in China still predominantly originates from foreign countries. However, the Chinese government continues to invest heavily in domestic companies to develop their own machinery due to increasing pressure from the United States.
