Chrome Browser Enters the Era of Intensified Competition, Primed with AI Capabilities for Image Creation, Work Assistance, and Automatic Tab Organization

Google has announced the addition of new features to Google Chrome, utilizing the power of generative AI. These features include the ability to assist in writing and creating images, similar to what Microsoft Edge has done with Copilot. The three features are:

1. Organize Similar Tabs: Automatically group tabs with similar content together, allowing users to name and add emoji icons to the groups. This is similar to the chat features in ChatGPT and Bard, where users can name chat topics themselves.

2. AI-generated Background Images: Users can select the style, tone, and color of the background images, but they cannot manually add their own designs. The AI will generate unique backgrounds based on the user’s preferences.

3. “Help me write” Button: This feature assists users in writing text based on given commands. Users can specify the voice and length of the text.

These features are currently in the experimental phase and will be released in Chrome 121. Users will need to manually enable them through the Settings -> Experimental AI menu. However, users logged in with organizational or educational accounts will not be able to access these features.

TLDR: Google Chrome is introducing new features powered by generative AI, including assistance with writing and image creation, similar to Microsoft Edge’s Copilot. These features allow for automatic grouping of similar tabs, AI-generated background images, and a “Help me write” button. The features are currently in experimentation and will be available in Chrome 121, but are not accessible for organizational or educational accounts.
