OpenAI recently revealed that the large-scale AI model, GPT-4.5, which was introduced back in February, will cease access to its API for developers starting from July 14th. This comes after the introduction of their new model, GPT-4.1, just last night.
According to OpenAI, GPT-4.1 has capabilities that are comparable or even superior to GPT-4.5 in many aspects, all while being more cost-effective. As a result, the company will discontinue the use of this model to redirect resources towards future model development.
Currently, the GPT-4.5 model is available for preview research purposes and ongoing usage through ChatGPT.

TLDR: OpenAI will be shutting down access to the GPT-4.5 model in favor of focusing on the development of the newer GPT-4.1 model, which offers similar or better performance at a lower cost.
