Collaboration between Microsoft and Tencent brings Android apps to Windows 11 exclusively in China.

Microsoft China has joined hands with Tencent, the giant in the Chinese gaming industry, to bring Tencent App Treasure, the mobile app and game store of Tencent, to Windows 11 as a featured section in the Microsoft Store.

The integration of Tencent’s Android mobile apps and games into Windows this time around is intriguing, especially since Microsoft has discontinued Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) and scrapped the deal with Amazon Appstore earlier in 2024. The demand for mobile gaming on PC seems to be significant (to the extent that even Google had to create Google Play Games on Windows to tap into this market), which might be a key reason why Microsoft has turned to Tencent for this partnership to offer over 1,000 Chinese apps and games.

On Tencent’s end, they already have a PC version of their app store, Tencent App Treasure, utilizing Intel Bridge Technology and Celadon to run Android apps on Windows. The news here is the announcement that Tencent App Treasure will be integrated into the Microsoft Store, eliminating the need for a separate store download, similar to Microsoft’s deal with Amazon Appstore.

This collaboration is currently exclusive to China and is now rolling out to Windows Insider users.

TLDR: Microsoft China partners with Tencent to bring Tencent App Treasure to Windows 11, offering over 1,000 Chinese apps and games, catering to the demand for mobile gaming on PC in China.
