Compensation of 25 Million Baht for Employees Terminated for Non-Response to Elon Musk’s Email Offering Work or Resignation

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) of Ireland has ordered X to pay over 550,000 pounds or nearly 25 million baht to Gary Rooney, a former employee of X, for sending an email from Elon Musk instructing employees to work in “hardcore mode” or resign and receive compensation, which was deemed unfair dismissal.

Following Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter in late 2022, he sent emails to all company employees stating that they must work intensely for long hours under high pressure, along with a ultimatum to employees to ‘accept’ within 24 hours or be dismissed and compensated for 3 months.

WRC officials ruled that Elon Musk’s mere 24-hour deadline was not a reasonable advance notice period, and that ignoring the email did not lead to resignations.
