Sandeep Waraich, a manager on the Pixel Wearables team at Google, told Engadget that we won’t be seeing any new smartwatch products from the Fitbit brand. The smartwatch market is shifting towards the Pixel Watch.
Waraich also mentioned that Fitbit brand products will now focus on smart bands or trackers, like the Fitbit Inspire, known for its user-friendly interface and long-lasting battery. The Fitbit team is proud of this product line.
The latest smartwatches from Fitbit, the Versa 4 and Sense 2, were introduced in 2022 to keep up with the Pixel Watch, Google’s first smartwatch with assistance from the Fitbit team. Fitbit watches will continue to be sold without any planned discontinuation.
Waraich confirmed that Google’s acquisition of Fitbit was a complementary move. Google’s AI expertise combined with Fitbit’s heart rate monitoring sensor data analysis has resulted in algorithms different from competitors in the market.
