After Google launched their new streaming device, the Google TV Streamer, priced at $100 and discontinuing the sale of the Chromecast, which was priced at $30-50, questions arose about whether Google would abandon this market altogether.
Confirmation has now come from Shalini Govil-Pai, the executive at Google TV, in an interview with The Verge, stating that Google will no longer return to the budget streaming device market. This decision was made because there are already enough products from other brands saturating the market in the United States, such as Walmart Onn, Amazon Fire TV Stick, and Roku Streaming Stick, making it unnecessary for Google to compete in this space.
On the other hand, Google mentioned that users are looking for premium streaming devices that are more powerful and have more memory than before. Govil-Pai referred to NVIDIA Shield as the target that Google aims to achieve in terms of performance and price ($150). Therefore, the Google TV Streamer was priced at $100 to not be too expensive, with plans to gradually introduce software features such as using Gemini power to better personalize content for users.

TLDR: Google will no longer focus on budget streaming devices and aims to provide users with a more premium and powerful streaming experience with the Google TV Streamer.
