Confronting Samsung and Google Over Auto Blocker System on Samsung Mobiles: Blocking Apps Beyond Store

Epic Games has lodged a lawsuit against Google and Samsung, citing their efforts to block the installation of apps outside of the store. Samsung’s One UI firmware with the Auto Blocker feature, according to Epic, further restricts Google Play Store on Samsung hardware.

Epic alleges that Samsung is “intentionally” incorporating the Auto Blocker feature post Epic’s direct legal victory over Google, indicating a clear attempt to limit competition on Google Play Store and Samsung Galaxy Store. Epic highlights the complex installation process of Epic Games Store version for Android, requiring up to 21 steps when Samsung’s Auto Blocker is enabled.

Furthermore, Epic recalls a past incident where Google colluded with Samsung to restrict app installations on Android, evidenced by emails from Google in 2020 offering Samsung $50 million to prevent the rise of Galaxy Store as a competitor to Play Store.

TLDR: Epic Games files antitrust claims against Google and Samsung for alleged anti-competitive behavior in blocking app installations outside of their respective stores.
