The news of the merger between CD Projekt, a game company from Poland, and The Molasses Flood, a small studio based in Boston, has created ripples in the industry. The Molasses Flood, named after the infamous 1919 Great Molasses Flood in Boston, was founded in 2014 and has produced two small-sized games, The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, before joining CD Projekt in 2021.
Currently, The Molasses Flood has been tasked with developing a multiplayer game with the codename “Sirius” in The Witcher universe. This project is part of the trio of Witcher games alongside The Witcher 4 (codenamed “Polaris”) and The Witcher Remake (codenamed “Canis Majoris”).
Damian Isla, co-founder of The Molasses Flood and director of the game Sirius, announced on LinkedIn his decision to step down from the studio. The merger with CD Projekt’s main studio has been seen as a positive development, as it streamlines workflow and collaboration with other teams within CD Projekt. Isla believes that the game Sirius will be a remarkable achievement and is excited to see it reach a global audience.
CD Projekt has stated that this merger will not impact the development of new games, and both existing games will still be distributed by CDPR as usual.
TLDR: CD Projekt acquires The Molasses Flood, enhancing their game development capabilities within The Witcher universe.
