Visa has stated that Thailand leads in the frequency of mobile banking usage in Southeast Asia, with approximately 97% using mobile banking at least once a week. This is followed by Vietnam (95%) and Indonesia (90%), with the regional average standing at 89%.
According to Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes Study, Vietnam has seen the highest decrease in cash usage from the previous year at 56%, followed by Malaysia (49%) and Thailand (47%).
Furthermore, Thailand tops the chart in real-time payment service usage frequency (such as scanning QR codes), with 86% of survey respondents using it at least once a week. This is followed by Vietnam at 84% and Indonesia at 69%.
Visa also reveals that 75% of consumers in Southeast Asia have heard of or know about the concept of Generative AI. When segmented by consumer groups, it is found that the high-spending consumers (51%) are more familiar with Gen AI compared to the general consumer group (37%).
