Consumer Organization Council Reports Victims of Money-Sucking App Win Bank Lawsuit, Not Required to Pay Money That Criminals Sucked Out of Cash Cards.

Consumer organization reports a case involving a bank customer who fell victim to a money-siphoning app in 2023, where the fraudster was able to siphon off a total of 155,835 baht. Within this amount, the culprit utilized cash withdrawals of 100,000 baht. Subsequently, the Bank of Thailand Credit Card Company filed a lawsuit to recover this sum based on the credit card cash advance debt agreement.

In this case, the Consumer Association in Khon Kaen province stepped in to assist with legal representation for the fight, resulting in the Khon Kaen Provincial Court dismissing the claim, relieving the consumer from debt repayment as they were not the ones responsible for the transactions.

This case mirrors a similar incident in 2024 where the perpetrator exploited credit card limit increases and cash withdrawals after the victim installed a money-siphoning app to maximize funds obtained.

The onslaught of money-siphoning apps has decreased since January, but pending cases may still linger in the courts. The consumer organization urges affected individuals to seek advice and assistance.
