Continuous Updates: Intel’s XeSS Technology Enhancing Visual Scaling with Support for 150 Gaming Titles

The world of gaming in the post-era is driven by upscaling and frame generation techniques, with each GPU manufacturer offering their own unique solutions such as NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. Intel itself has XeSS upscaling technology that pairs with their Arc/Xe GPUs, although it may not garner as much attention as DLSS, it continues to receive updates. Intel has recently announced that over 150 games now support XeSS technology, including popular titles like Fortnite, Naraka, Like a Dragon, Forza Horizon 5, and STALKER 2 (full list on the Intel website).

Towards the end of 2024, Intel unveiled XeSS 2, which incorporates frame generation technology but is only compatible with the Arc B-Series GPUs, which are currently in limited supply. The current limitations of upscaling and frame generation technology necessitate game developers to adjust their games accordingly, and it has become a matter of whose technology reigns supreme. We are seeing efforts to create a unified API, such as DirectX working on features like Neural Rendering, which utilizes AI processing units in GPUs across different manufacturers.

TLDR: Intel’s XeSS technology offers AI upscaling for gaming, with over 150 supported games and ongoing advancements in frame generation, creating competition and the need for standardized API across GPU manufacturers.
