Convergence of American Writers Association After Achieving Fresh Accord with Film Studio, with a Special Emphasis on AI

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has ended its strike after reaching a new agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), representing various studio companies, regarding increased hiring and the issue of AI in the film industry.

According to the WGA, screenwriters should receive a minimum 18% pay raise, along with a 26% increase in profit sharing for films with budgets of at least $30 million. As for the AI issue, the contract stipulates that AI is unable to write or create new literary content, and the data generated by AI cannot be used as a collective source, including reserving the rights to benefit from the material created by writers for AI training.

Now, streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney Plus, and Amazon will be required to provide the WGA with streaming hour data both domestically and internationally. However, the data obtained will be subject to Non-disclosure Agreements (NDAs) to ensure confidentiality, although an overview of the information can now be shared to provide WGA members with greater transparency regarding the streaming business.

TLDR: The Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have settled their dispute, with the WGA securing increased compensation and protection against AI usage in the film industry. Streaming platforms will now disclose streaming hour data under NDAs, allowing WGA members to have a clearer understanding of the streaming business. (111 words)
