The European Commission (EC) has disclosed progress in the investigation into Corning’s alleged anti-competitive behavior in the electronic display sector, which commenced earlier this month. Corning has submitted proposals to address various issues previously identified by the EC.
Issues raised by the EC concerning Corning include entering into exclusive agreements with smartphone manufacturers for large, regular purchases, prohibiting similar discount offers from competitors, and enforcing uniform agreements with glass raw material suppliers.
Corning’s proposed adjustments stipulate exceptions to these agreements with existing equipment manufacturers and suppliers, with a commitment to refrain from such agreements in the future. The company will maintain control measures to prevent patent infringements, with a duration of 9 years subject to EC monitoring.
EC will collect feedback from stakeholders over a 6-week period to determine whether to proceed with further investigation.
