Cutting-edge Analysis: NVIDIA Dominates 88% of the Desktop GPU Market, AMD Trails Behind with Less than 1%, Intel Lags Far Behind.

Aside from NVIDIA becoming the second-largest company in the world in terms of market value, surpassing Apple due to the rapid increase in revenue from server-side operations, the latest market research company, Jon Peddie Research (JPR), also reported on the desktop discrete GPU market. NVIDIA’s market share increased by 8% in the first quarter of this year compared to the last quarter of 2023, capturing a total market share of 88%, leaving AMD with the remaining 12% and pushing Intel’s market share to 0%.

Jon Peddie further emphasized that after the cryptocurrency boom and the impact of COVID-19 in the first quarter, GPU sales usually experience a slight decline. However, NVIDIA’s profitability from exporting hardware for AI continues to be consistent due to the increasing demand for AI applications.

Intel attempted to penetrate the desktop discrete GPU market with the Arc series chips starting in 2022 but faced challenges as various games did not optimize for Intel’s chips frequently enough, leading to a continuous decrease in market share. Despite confirming plans to develop new products, Intel is set to launch the Battlemage series chips this year.

Currently, other companies are collaborating to compete for market share against NVIDIA. It remains to be seen whether NVIDIA can maintain its dominance in this market area in the future.

**TLDR**: NVIDIA climbs to the second-largest global company, surpassing Apple, with a rapid revenue increase. Their market share grows to 88% in desktop discrete GPUs, leaving AMD at 12%. Intel struggles to compete and introduces new Arc and Battlemage series chips. Other companies are trying to challenge NVIDIA’s market dominance.
