Cutting-Edge Chip Production Planned by TSMC with 30% Capacity at Fab in Arizona to Support US Chip Industry Self-Reliance.

After President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% import tax if companies refuse to increase production bases in the United States, TSMC has recently unveiled plans to produce cutting-edge chips up to 30% at its facility in Arizona. This move aims to bolster the semiconductor industry in the US to be more self-reliant.

The company is accelerating the construction of its second and third plants, potentially speeding up production timelines set for 2028, despite facing challenges such as labor shortages and delayed licensing approvals.

Regarding trade uncertainties and risks from Trump’s tax walls, TSMC noted that there have been no changes in customer behavior, with the demand for AI chips continuing to grow steadily, especially in the US, where AI chip revenue is expected to double this year.

TSMC is closely monitoring the situation and proceeding with caution, including debunking rumors of a joint venture with Intel. They have confirmed that there are no plans for collaboration or technology sharing with other companies, including Intel.
