Fedora has announced the release of Fedora 41 image for use on RISC-V boards, catering to the growing popularity of this architecture among developers. The hardware market has seen a rise in new RISC-V models, but traditionally, RISC-V systems have mostly used Debian or Debian-derived distributions. The inclusion of Fedora’s latest image is expected to facilitate wider adoption of RISC-V boards.
Currently, the supported hardware includes the StarFive VisionFive 2 (VF2) and SiFive HiFive Premier P550 models, while other boards like Banana Pi BPI-F3 and Milk-V Jupiter M1/K1 are not fully supported yet. Additionally, the image can also run on QEMU, simulating a RISC-V environment.
Fedora currently supports multiple CPU architectures, with the primary ones being x86_64 and ARM AArch64, and alternative architectures including IBM Power 8 (ppc64le), IBM Z (s390x), and RISC-V.
TLDR: Fedora releases Fedora 41 image for RISC-V boards, expanding support for the architecture and aiming to increase adoption among developers.
