GNOME 46 debuts a fresh version every 6 months with a slew of new features.
The Global Search feature, activated by pressing Ctrl + Shift + F or clicking the magnifying glass icon, allows for system-wide desktop searches (configurable search settings).
The Files app enhances file management by adding a status bar for copying or moving files at the bottom of the window, improving file and thumbnail display efficiency in folders, providing more detailed file timestamps, and supporting data retrieval from OneDrive for display in the app.
Remote Desktop login has been improved to fully support logging into remote machines 100% remotely, making configuration from a distance easier.
The Settings app revamps UI settings, supporting additional touchpad settings such as right-click, two-finger click, corner click, and disabling touchpad when typing, among others.
Notifications now offer expanded views akin to mobile OS for detailed notification examination.
Support for variable refresh rates (VRR) display but still in an experimental testing phase.
