Counterpoint Research has released a report on smartphone sales for the third quarter of 2024. The overall global market has seen a growth of 2%, marking the first growth in the third quarter sales since Q3 2018. Regions where the market showed high growth include Latin America, Western Europe, and Japan.
Leading the pack are Samsung and Apple, with relatively stable sales figures. Samsung maintains its position as the top market player with a 19% market share, while Apple’s iPhone 16 sales in September helped sustain its market presence.
Xiaomi holds the third spot with an 8% increase in sales, while Oppo saw a 3% decline in sales. Vivo, on the other hand, emerged as the strongest performer with a 10% increase in sales, rising to the number one spot in the Chinese and Indian markets.
Outside the top 5 brands, Huawei and Motorola saw a 30% increase in sales compared to the same quarter last year. Motorola and Google Pixel achieved record sales in the third quarter, with Pixel 9 likely to be a top-seller.
Counterpoint also notes that despite a slower overall growth in the smartphone market, one in four consumers still opt for devices priced above $600. Brands offering AI-driven features are expected to stand out from the competition.
TLDR: The smartphone market experienced a 2% growth in the third quarter of 2024, with Samsung and Apple leading the pack and AI features driving consumer preferences.
