In 2020, Garena acquired Phoenix Labs, but in 2023, the company’s management decided to buy back the business. Following this, Phoenix Labs faced financial difficulties, leading to multiple rounds of layoffs over the past two years. Currently, there are almost no game development employees left. The latest announcement came on May 29, 2025, when the servers for Dauntless were announced to be shutting down.
