Decoding the Chronology: Microsoft Initiates the Elimination of Windows Mixed Reality Features from Windows, the Pre-existing Capacity Assured until 2026.

During the current wave, the resurgence of VR Spatial Computing has piqued interest once again with the release of Apple Vision Pro glasses. On the other hand, Microsoft has started removing VR features from Windows 11, as previously announced. The new Windows 11 Insider Build 26052 (in the 26XXX range) no longer supports OEM Windows Mixed Reality glasses from other manufacturers (excluding Microsoft’s own HoloLens glasses, which are still functional).

Microsoft has stated that users of the original Mixed Reality glasses can still use them to play games with Steam until 2026, but they must be on Windows 11 v23H2. If they upgrade beyond that (such as 24H2), the glasses will no longer function.

The last model of Windows Mixed Reality glasses to be sold was the HP Reverb G2, released in 2020.
