Delta Airlines has filed a lawsuit against cybersecurity company Crowdstrike in the Federal Court in Fulton County, Georgia, following a software update incident that rendered computers worldwide unusable on July 19.
The airline stated that the event impacted its operations to the extent of canceling 7,000 flights, affecting up to 1.3 million passengers over a 5-day period, resulting in damages exceeding $500 million. In the lawsuit, Delta cited that the company released an untested update which caused malfunctions for users, with over 8.5 million Windows operating system computers globally affected.
Crowdstrike has yet to respond to this lawsuit, but had previously questioned Delta’s emergency management practices, as other airlines using Crowdstrike faced similar issues but were able to recover their systems more swiftly.
