Discovering Glitch in iPhone and iPad Leading to Device Crash with Just 4 Characters Typed

Reports have surfaced regarding a glitch in iPhone and iPad devices that causes them to crash when typing just 4 characters. Security researchers have stated that entering the characters “::” in the search bar of Springboard, such as in the Settings search bar or the App Library search bar on the far right of the Home screen, disrupts the functionality of iOS.

In some cases, the device may only spring back to the Home screen, while in others, the screen may go black for a brief moment, or a soft reboot may occur. However, security researchers have clarified that this issue is a bug and not a security vulnerability.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that this bug does not occur from typing anywhere in iOS but is specific to certain areas, and Apple has not yet commented on these reports.
