Following the release of the iPhone 16, it’s now time for iFixit to dissect the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple’s flagship smartphone for the year. According to iFixit, the overall teardown process is said to be easier compared to the iPhone 15 Pro.
One of the first changes is the battery, with a metal shield surrounding it, reducing the risk of damage during disassembly. However, the Pro model still utilizes adhesive strips for securing the battery, requiring specialized tools for removal, unlike the iPhone 16 which allows for easier battery access with low heat.
Another puzzling aspect is the metal casing around the battery, exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro and absent in the Pro Max model. While this method seems beneficial, iFixit is unsure of the reasoning behind it.
Other key components are now more easily replaceable. For instance, the speaker can be swapped out from the back cover, the LiDAR sensor can be replaced without removing the camera assembly, and overall, the overlapping components are fewer.
With repairs now simplified, iFixit gives the iPhone 16 a repairability score of 7 out of 10.
TLDR: iFixit finds that the iPhone 16 Pro teardown process is easier than its predecessor, with notable improvements in battery accessibility and component replaceability.
