Efficient Data Transfer Terminals Unveiled by AWS for Swift Cloud Uploads, Exceeding Personal Upload Speeds

AWS has introduced a new service called Data Transfer Terminals, allowing customers to physically bring their storage devices to upload data to the AWS cloud faster than uploading over the network, especially for large amounts of data.

Currently, there are two Data Transfer Terminals opened in LA and New York. Customers can schedule appointments in advance through the AWS Management Console, specifying the person’s name who will bring the data for upload. Upon arrival at the destination (an office, not an AWS data center), staff will escort them to a room with a computer directly connected to the AWS network via a 100G LR4 QSFP cable, facilitating rapid upload to the AWS cloud.

Previously, AWS offered a service called Snowball, where hard drives were sent through mail for AWS to upload data. However, Snowball was designed for uploading data from locations with limited internet connectivity, while Data Transfer Terminals aim to address speed issues in uploading.
