Elevating App Security Standards Across Mobile, Web, and Cloud: Meet the App Defense Alliance.

The App Defense Alliance, a coalition formed by Google and multiple antivirus companies in 2019, aims to combat malware on the Google Play Store. Later, Google handed over the reins to the Linux Foundation in 2023, with tech giants like Meta and Microsoft joining the cause. The latest initiative from the App Defense Alliance is the release of Application Security Assessment (ASA) 1.0, setting a standard for app security across mobile, web, and cloud platforms.

The ASA specification, accessible on GitHub, covers essential security measures that all apps should have, such as data storage, data encryption, identity verification, network traffic management, code security, and data privacy protection. These specifications are tailored to different types of apps and platforms, including iOS and Android, with specific testing criteria in place.

In the next phase, the App Defense Alliance plans to provide certification for apps that meet the ASA standards, offering users, especially corporate clients, peace of mind knowing that the apps they use are secure.

TLDR: The App Defense Alliance collaborates with major tech companies to enhance app security and offers certification for apps that meet their stringent security standards.
