In the wake of the recent earthquake, Apple has announced the availability of emergency alerts for receiving messages from the government and public safety notifications on iPhones. These alerts encompass various types, including messages from local or national governments, life-threatening or safety alerts, severe weather notifications, AMBER Alerts for missing children (in some countries/regions), public safety messages (in some countries/regions), and additional information from the alert sender.
Furthermore, Apple Watch is also capable of receiving these notifications. To toggle government emergency alerts on/off, navigate to Settings > Notifications, scroll down to Government Alerts, and enable or disable the types of alerts you wish to receive.
For iOS 15.4 and above, ensure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version (iOS 15.6 or newer), then go to Settings > Notifications to enable or disable test alerts. For iOS 15.3 or lower, dial 500525371# and make a call to activate test alerts.
