During the Pixel 9 unveiling, Google announced additional Accessibility features for Pixel users, even going back to older models. Here are the details:
The first feature update is in the Magnifier app, designed to assist users with visual impairments. It utilizes both macro and wide lens cameras to help locate desired items, such as navigating a menu at a restaurant or finding a specific flight from an airport’s timetable display. The display uses Picture-in-picture to show a wider angle and zoomed-in image for easier identification.
The Magnifier update is available for Pixel 5 and newer models.
Next is the Live Transcribe feature, which transcribes spoken words into text. It now supports the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s dual-screen capability. Additionally, Live Caption now supports On-Device multilingual typing, adding 7 more languages to the existing 8, totaling 15 languages (Thai language support still requires an internet connection).
Lastly, the Guided Frame feature helps users position their front-facing camera accurately. Previously found in TalkBack settings, it can now be accessed directly through the camera settings, with improved smart positioning capabilities. It supports group photos and can alert users to low-light environments.
