Enhanced AI Technology to Boost Game Quality and Revenue Growth by 30% in the Next 5 Years

At the recent Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, EA CEO Andrew Wilson expressed his confidence in the potential of Generative AI to significantly enhance game development efficiency. He stated that this technology could boost game creation efficiency by 30% and increase company revenue by 20% within the next 5 years. Wilson emphasized that the rapid advancement of this technology will enable the company to produce even better games with more unique content.

In the past, creating sports fields in games used to take up to 6 months. However, with the implementation of Generative AI over the past 12 months, the development time has been reduced to just 6 weeks. Wilson predicts that in the coming years, this timeframe could decrease further to just 6 days.

Illustrating the outcomes, Wilson compared FIFA 23, which featured only 12 player movement patterns, to EA Sports FC 24, utilizing Generative AI to generate over 1,200 movement patterns for players. Looking ahead, Wilson hopes that within the next 5 years, Generative AI will help expand the player base by at least 50%, from the current 700 million players, ultimately leading to increased spending on EA games by 10-20%.

While some game developers in the industry express concerns about the potential impacts of AI, Wilson reassured that EA developers are embracing these technologies. He believes that the use of Generative AI will empower developers to enhance their capabilities instead of competing against each other.

TLDR: EA CEO Andrew Wilson believes Generative AI will revolutionize game development, improving efficiency, player experience, and revenue growth, while also empowering developers to innovate.
