Apple has begun delivering the highly-anticipated Apple Vision Pro headset to customers in the United States. This has led to the release of supporting documentation, which contains several interesting details. Here are some of the highlights:
Bluetooth Connectivity
The Vision Pro can be connected to additional Bluetooth devices, including AirPods and Beats headphones. Apple recommends using the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen for the best experience. Most Bluetooth keyboards, including the Apple Magic Trackpad, are supported. However, Apple states that older Apple keyboards with removable batteries are not compatible. Bluetooth mice are not supported. MFi (Made for iPhone) controllers, including Xbox and PlayStation controllers, can be used with the Vision Pro.
However, Apple does not guarantee full compatibility with all 3rd party devices.
Find My
Newer Apple devices have been equipped with a chip to support Find My, which helps locate lost devices. This includes even the Apple Pencil. However, this feature is not available for the Vision Pro. Apple specifies that the Vision Pro only supports the Activation Lock feature and does not support the Find My location tracking feature. To prevent device tampering, the Vision Pro can only be locked to prevent disabling Find My or resetting the device. One possible workaround is to attach an AirTag to the Vision Pro case and locate it using the case’s location.
Travel Mode
The visuals presented by the Vision Pro are primarily intended for indoor use, as the battery lasts about 2 hours. However, the headset includes a Travel Mode, which provides an immersive environment while watching movies during flights. When using the Vision Pro while traveling, it is recommended to properly store the headset when not in use, especially in a protective case, and remove the batteries. Avoid storing any objects that may scratch the headset nearby.
During air travel, Apple advises users to remain seated at all times and remove the headset before standing up to avoid hitting cabin windows, which may impact environmental checks. To adjust the screen position, use the Digital Crown to rotate it to the desired position.
Persona
One of the selling features of the Vision Pro is the Persona feature, which allows users to create a facial representation during video calls. The Persona can mimic real-life movements and expressions. However, initial reviews from the media suggest that the displayed Persona can look unnatural, and Apple may need to make further improvements.
For the most realistic results, Apple recommends configuring the Persona in suitable lighting conditions, without any reflective surfaces, using a plain background without objects or people behind, and ensuring the widest and most natural smile when prompted. If AirPods or other earbuds are worn, the resulting image may be incomplete, so it is advised to remove them before configuring the Persona.
Additional Information
To clean the lens and screen, use a microfiber cloth or the provided cleaning cloth in the box.
Straps and bands can be washed with a mixture of dish soap and water, but ensure they are completely dry before using them again.
Guest Mode allows other people to use the Vision headset.
To connect a Mac display, an update to Sonoma or newer is required, along with using the same Apple ID and being on the same Wi-Fi network.
Apple Silicon Macs support a maximum resolution of 4K, while Intel-based Macs support a maximum resolution of 3K.
TLDR: Apple has started delivering the Apple Vision Pro headset to customers in the US. The headset offers Bluetooth connectivity, but compatibility with 3rd party devices is not guaranteed. It does not support Find My location tracking but only the Activation Lock feature. The Vision Pro has a Travel Mode for immersive experiences during flights. The Persona feature allows users to create a simulated facial representation. Apple suggests following specific guidelines to achieve the best results. Cleaning instructions and additional features, such as Guest Mode and display compatibility, are also provided.
