Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3073 (Dev/Beta) with an intriguing new feature called Windows Search, which has just elevated the image search capabilities on the device with the power of NPU technology, enhancing its capabilities to search for images in the cloud and display them on File Explorer.
An example of how this feature works is by logging into OneDrive and searching for images using the term “mountain bike” in the File Explorer search bar. The results will consist of images of mountain bikes sourced from both the device and OneDrive cloud, displayed together seamlessly.
This feature currently only supports OneDrive personal accounts, but Microsoft has explicitly stated their intention to open it up to other cloud services such as Google Drive or iCloud in the future.
At present, this feature is only available on Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon processors, but will soon extend support to Intel/AMD CPUs as well.
TLDR: Microsoft introduces Windows Search upgrade with NPU technology, enabling users to search for and display images from both the device and OneDrive, with plans to expand support to other cloud services in the future.
