In the recent unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, the new C button raised eyebrows. Nintendo clarified that the C stands for Chat, a feature that enhances multiplayer gaming experience called GameChat.
GameChat allows up to 12 players to communicate online as if they are playing together in the same room. The addition of a microphone hardware with noise-cancelling technology improves smooth communication.
If voice chat alone doesn’t suffice, GameChat also enables screen sharing among players, revealing individual game statuses or aiding each other during gameplay.
The highlight of GameChat is its video call system, where players attach a webcam device to the USB-C of the Switch 2 to showcase their image at the bottom right corner of the screen. They can choose to share only their face, blur the background, or transmit full video format.
The video feature of GameChat is integrated into compatible games like Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, enhancing the gaming experience further.
Nintendo also released the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, a adjustable camera accessory for GameChat system, priced at 5,980 yen (approximately 1,300 Baht) in Japan.
To protect user privacy, GameChat requires participants to be listed as Friends for group participation. Invitations must be approved names, and players under 16 must obtain parental consent via Parental Controls to use GameChat.
GameChat offers a trial period until March 31, 2026, without conditions, after which membership to Nintendo Switch Online is necessary to continue using GameChat.
TLDR: Nintendo Switch 2 introduced GameChat with voice, screen sharing, and video call features for enhanced multiplayer gaming, supported by additional accessories and user privacy controls. It offers a trial period until 2026 and requires Nintendo Switch Online membership thereafter.
