WhatsApp has announced the addition of a feature to transcribe voice messages, aiming to address the challenges of having conversations while on the move or in noisy environments, or when receiving lengthy messages that cannot be stopped to listen to.
In terms of privacy, WhatsApp assures that the transcribed messages will be stored only on the device level and will be end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that WhatsApp cannot listen to or read these voice messages.
To enable this feature, users can go to Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcripts to activate it when needed, or they can press and hold a voice message and select “transcribe.”
WhatsApp states that this feature will be rolled out to users worldwide in the coming weeks, currently supporting four languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian, with more to be added in the future.
TLDR: WhatsApp introduces a voice message transcription feature to assist users in noisy environments or on the go, ensuring privacy and offering language support with more to come.
