Apple states that devices running Device Analytics, which sends anonymous data back to Apple, allow the company to observe trends in popular emojis and make specific improvements. However, Apple does not have access to all prompts or user data.
This method will also be applied to other content creation features such as Image Playground, Image Wand, Memories Creation, and Writing Tools in Apple Intelligence, including Visual Intelligence. However, the Genmoji feature becomes more challenging with longer prompts, such as those in writing enhancement or content summarization features, prompting Apple to propose pairing with Synthetic Data.
Apple utilizes artificial intelligence to generate various text formats from prompts such as “Would you like to play tennis tomorrow at 11:30AM?” The generated texts are encoded with features like language, length, and key topics, then paired with active Apple Analytics devices to determine which resonates most with users for further refinement without accessing user data.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple will implement this approach in Apple Intelligence starting with iOS 18.5 and macOS 18.5 beta onwards.
