Chrome on Android has improved autofill from external password manager apps to be on par with Google autofill. Previously, Chrome on Android supported autofill with the Google app assisting in autofilling passwords and forms. However, users can now choose to use other password manager apps instead, with the limitation that these apps must operate in compatibility mode through the accessibility channel of the operating system, which may lead to screen stuttering and potential duplication with Google autofill.
The latest update now allows Chrome on Android to support autofill from external apps natively, eliminating the need for compatibility mode. Overall user experience has greatly improved, comparable to using Google autofill.
This feature is available for Chrome 131 (currently in beta) on Android 14 and above. Users can enable this by changing settings to Passwords, passkeys & accounts and selecting Google as the default password manager app.
