Google has expanded the features of Find My Device to include tracking devices within a network, allowing us to track the location of our friends (who have shared it with us). This feature is reminiscent of Apple’s Find My Friends, which later merged with Find My iPhone to become the new app, Find My.
Tracking the location of friends is not a new concept for Google, as they had previously introduced a similar feature in the Trusted Contacts app, which was discontinued in 2020. The same feature has now surfaced in Google Maps and Google Family Link, and most recently in Find My Device.
To use this feature, simply navigate to the People tab within the Find My Device app, separate from the Devices tab for tracking devices. This feature is currently in beta mode.
TLDR: Google has integrated a friend-tracking feature into Find My Device, similar to Apple’s Find My Friends, allowing users to share their location within a network.
