Enhancing Location Sharing Capabilities on Find My: Apple to Collaborate with Airlines, Initially Supporting 15 Carriers

Apple has announced additional details about the Share Item Location feature, a new feature on iOS that allows users to pinpoint and track items like AirTags or devices on the Find My network, enabling them to share location coordinates with others for assistance in locating them.

Share Item Location is now available in iOS 18.2, currently in public beta status, with a general update expected in December. Users can create links that specify the location of items they want to track and share them with others for assistance. These links will expire after 7 days.

In real-world scenarios, Apple anticipates heavy use of this location-sharing feature for tracking luggage during air travel. Users can share these links with airlines to help track delayed or misplaced bags.

Apple has stated that airlines are currently integrating the tracking system through Find My links, with control over access to data. Initially, 15 airlines such as Air Canada, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines are involved, with more expected to join in the future.
