A research team from Stanford Medicine has reported on the experimental use of GPT-4 to assist in drafting text for various apps used by healthcare providers. All content must be reviewed by staff before being sent out again.
This experiment involved 162 physicians and nurses testing for 5 weeks. As there are multiple apps that staff must use, those that support GPT-4 actually account for 20% of all text responses by staff. The text varies, such as patients inquiring about side effects of medication or basic treatment information.
The test results did not show significant changes in response time. However, there was a decrease in both workload and fatigue after using GPT-4, indicating that it may help reduce some of the workload for staff members.
Stanford Medicine notes that although GPT-4 may not increase work speed, it does make the task feel lighter, which is considered helpful. There are plans to expand its use in the future.
