Enhancing Performance: Windows 11 Insider Introduces Distinct Power Modes for Plugged-In and Unplugged Scenarios

Microsoft has introduced new features to Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27686 (Canary Channel). Users can now customize Power Mode separately between plugged in and on battery through the Power Settings interface.

Previously, users could adjust settings such as screen off and sleep time separately for plugged in and unplugged scenarios. The new addition now allows for finer control over Power Mode, with users being able to choose from 3 modes: Best power efficiency, Balanced, and Best performance.

Build 27686 also improves battery life (details unspecified) and adds new options in the Settings app, including the ability to enable HDR video playback even when HDR mode is off (located in Settings > System > Display > HDR) and the ability to detach virtual hard disks (VHD/VHDX) in Settings > System > Storage > Disks & Volumes.
