Envisioning the Comparable: FFVII Rebirth Proffers the Possibility for the Development Group to Embark on a 2D-HD Rendition of FFVI, a Vision Worth Manifesting

Yoshinori Kitase recently gave an interview to Eurogamer regarding the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. During the interview, he touched on a previous statement he made on YouTube to French fans, where he mentioned that if a FFVI remake were to happen, it might take twice as long as FFVII to complete all its parts. Eurogamer asked Kitase if it would be possible for a remake of Final Fantasy VI to be a smaller game, perhaps using the 2D-HD art style seen in Octopath Traveler.

Kitase responded by saying that if the internal development team wanted to use that style (2D-HD) or any other style that they felt suited the game and resonated with the fans, he believed it was possible, and he himself would like to see it happen.

However, Kitase further explained that the FFVII remake is separate from the main series, and just because the FFVII trilogy has been successful, it doesn’t mean that Square Enix will automatically remake other games in the series alongside new installments.

In conclusion, Yoshinori Kitase expressed openness to the idea of remaking Final Fantasy VI in a smaller format with a unique art style, but clarified that each remake is approached independently, and the success of the FFVII remake does not guarantee remakes of other games in the series.
