Equinix Announces End of Cloud Bare Metal Services, Sets Sights on Data Center Business Empire.

Equinix, a major data center provider that recently announced its investment in Thailand, has informed customers that it will be discontinuing its Equinix Metal service in June 2026, despite only launching a few years ago.

The Equinix Metal service was acquired from the purchase of Packet, a company valued at $100 million USD in the United States in 2020. However, after Packet’s CEO, Zac Smith, resigned last year, the service saw little to no updates.

Equinix stated that it will now shift focus towards colocation business and hyperscale data center services, ensuring that customers will receive the same level of service until the service end date. Customers with contracts beyond this date will be provided with alternative solutions.
