Escaping the X Factor: Jack Dorsey Dismisses Bluesky Adoption

Jack Dorsey, former CEO of Bluesky, stated that the majority of new Bluesky users are not actively engaging with the platform but rather seeking an escape from platform X. Particularly, after the inauguration of the new President of the United States, there has been a significant increase in daily new users.

He believes this is not a cause for celebration. Users should benefit from Bluesky, something they cannot find elsewhere. Platforms should address the real issues users face. Increasing demand alone may not be sufficient.

The genesis of Bluesky is to create a platform where users can choose their own algorithms. Although users may currently be indifferent and only focused on escaping platform X, Dorsey hopes that one day they will take a deeper interest.

Bluesky was officially launched in February 2024 with around 3 million users, projected to reach 25.9 million users by the end of the year. Despite Bluesky’s rapid growth, Dorsey resigned from the board last year and criticized the company for repeating the same mistakes Twitter had made.

TLDR: Jack Dorsey expressed concerns about new Bluesky users primarily using the platform as an alternative to escape other platforms, emphasizing the need for users to derive unique benefits and for platforms to address real user issues. Despite rapid growth, Dorsey has distanced himself from the company due to similar mistakes observed in Twitter’s past.
