Reports indicate that the European Commission or EC has requested Apple to provide further clarification regarding the issue of Apple suspending Epic Games’ developer accounts, which may violate the Digital Markets Act (DMA) as well as other EU laws.
Previously, Apple confirmed that the company exercised its right to suspend Epic Games’ developer accounts in Sweden, which resulted in the inability to use them for app development and distribution worldwide. This decision was made due to past behavior that was deemed untrustworthy, and the action was taken as a result of ongoing legal proceedings.
In line with their plans, Epic Games aims to utilize developer accounts in Sweden to create a store for downloading games, including Fortnite, in the European region. Starting from iOS version 17.4 onwards, modifications have been made to allow for downloading apps from external stores under the EU’s DMA. Epic asserts that Apple’s suspension of developer accounts is a violation of DMA laws.
