A group of independent software developers in Europe has embarked on the creation of “EU OS,” a proof-of-concept Debian-based Linux system tailored for use in European public sector operations.
EU OS is not a brand new distribution developed from scratch, but rather an evolution of Fedora Desktop and KDE Plasma. The project’s goal is not to deliver a ready-to-use OS, but to serve as a foundation for customization in various sectors such as schools, hospitals, and governmental agencies, with a unified system for user account management and data. This facilitates streamlined administration of a large number of machines.
Currently, EU OS is a community-driven project, with hopes of official recognition by the European Commission in the future.
