European iOS Users Now Allowed to Directly Install Apps via Web Interface without Utilizing App Store

Apple announces a new policy allowing iOS users in Europe to install apps directly from developers’ websites, bypassing the App Store. This is known as Web Distribution, and developers must be registered organizations in Europe with over 1 million users in the previous calendar year. The move is seen as a response to the pressure from Spotify to end the ongoing legal battles.

Installing through Web Distribution will incur a Core Technology Fee (CTF) of 0.5 euros per download, with Apple waiving the fee for the first million downloads and providing exemptions for non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies.

Apple has not yet revealed when the Web Distribution API will be available for use.
