European Tesla Sales Plummet by 49% as EV Market Landscape Shifts by 28.4%

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association reported that Tesla’s car sales in Europe have decreased from 37,311 vehicles to 19,046 vehicles, a 49% drop in the first two months of 2025 compared to the previous year. On the other hand, overall sales of electric vehicles have increased by 28.4%.

The decline in Tesla’s sales can be attributed to the backlash against Tesla’s older models as well as resistance towards Elon Musk from various quarters. Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration and support for right-wing parties like the “Alternative for Germany” in Europe have led to protests and opposition in several areas. For instance, in Verden, Germany, seven Tesla cars parked in front of a showroom were set on fire.

Elon Musk has claimed that the protesters against Tesla are paid and urged to arrest the backers swiftly while cutting off their funding. He had previously stated, “If you don’t want to buy a car, that’s fine, but stop pretending to be mentally ill.”

TLDR: Tesla’s sales in Europe have plummeted, partly due to criticism against older models and Elon Musk’s political affiliations, leading to protests and even vehicle fires.
