Huawei has reportedly established a new research and development center near Shenzhen, China to develop machinery for chip production, similar to the lithography equipment made by major manufacturers like ASML, Canon, and Nikon. This move may be a result of the export control measures restricting the shipment of such machinery to China, driven by pressure from the United States.
Currently, chip production lithography machinery that Chinese manufacturers can import is limited to technology at the 28-nanometer level and above. However, Huawei’s research center aims to develop machinery at a smaller scale, potentially reaching the 14-16 nanometer range.
Located in the Shenzhen area, known for housing Huawei’s chip design office HiSilicon T, this research center also encompasses wireless communication technology research related to smartphones.
